Nationwide

New Zealand has one of the highest rates of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis in the world. Crohn's and Colitis New Zealand Charitable Trust's mission is to make lives more liveable for everyone in New Zealand affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis). These diseases are chronic and there is no cure. Those affected often face multiple hospitalisations, surgeries, and most are on long-term immunosuppressive medications. These diseases most commonly present in childhood and young adulthood, when those affected are in school, starting their careers, or raising young families.

CCNZ sponsors an annual six day camp for over 75 children and teens with these disease at no cost to their families. The organisation hosts annual educational seminars for caregivers and young adults and funds twelve support groups throughout the country. Its National IBD Care Working Group promotes research and advocates nationally for state of the art care for the 20,000 New Zealanders who are affected. The organisation has been the recipient of two Minister of Health Volunteer Awards.
