Fundraising to support the Tongan Cowboy/Taufa Lavemaau to compete at the upcoming Olympic qualifiers in March for Tonga in boxing 🇹🇴
Epsom, Auckland
Mālō e lelei friends and family,
Here's a message from Taufa aka The Tongan Cowboy -
In the last few days, I received confirmation that I will be competing at the upcoming World Qualifying Tournament in Busto Arsizio (near Milan), Italy this March. These are Olympic qualifiers and it is my next opportunity to fight for a spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics to fulfil my dream of representing my home country of Tonga in boxing there 🥊
Since returning from the Pacific Games in November (where I earned a bronze medal!), I've been training intensely with my coaches in preparation for the possibility of this Italy opportunity - all whilst juggling two jobs.
To make this trip, I will be taking unpaid leave from both these jobs, as a financial data administrator and a boxing trainer. I am looking to raise funds to go towards flights and travel expenses, training costs, and to help cover some of the income lost from work while I'm away.
A massive thank you to everyone who generously supported my last fundraiser to get me to the Pacific Games in pursuit of my Olympic dream. It was my first time representing Tonga on an international stage and winning a bronze medal for my team and country at an international competition is an experience I will never forget. I am so, so grateful and just want to acknowledge that I am fundraising again.
I would be so grateful for your support for this leg of my Olympic journey. Malo/thank you 🙏🏾 ‘Ofa atu ❤️

Cowboy is in Milan! 1 March 2024
Mālō e lelei everyone, thanks to you, Cowboy has made it to Milan! Today Team Tonga checked in to the athletes' accommodation in Busto Arsizio - the same area the Olympic Qualifiers will be held in in just a few days. He has been training a couple of times a day and adjusting well to the 12 hour time difference. We will give you all an update again once the draw is out in a couple of days and we know when Taufa's first fight is. Thank you again for making this possible. Just today we were talking on FaceTime about how grateful we are for all your support and how humbling it is that he's only there because of all your generous donations. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
