Tree planting for carbon capture, erosion prevention, shade and other benefits
International
We have already crowd-funded the planting of 23,400 trees by 195 subsistence farmers in Rubuguri District.
Now we plan to fund many more trees in the township area to capture carbon while providing welcome shade for the local people.
I grew up in Uganda. On a visit in 2013 we were put in touch with Mr Akantorana Moses who works in gorilla conservation. (Rubuguri borders Bwindi National Park.) He requested help with funding for reforestation.
Funding the propagation, planting and care of trees. All work to be carried out by the local community. More money = more trees!
Climate disruption and reforestation 2 October 2023
As I write this update the economic damage and human impact from climate disruption accelerates across the globe. We've planted over 35,000 trees now but this of course is trivial compared to the damage that our Western lifestyles cause. I hope you might agree with me that we have a moral responsibility to do more; that includes cutting our own GHG footprint AND getting political. "We’ll never get to zero emissions unless we admit the ugly truth – we’re all climate hypocrites."
No surrender. If everyone who said "there's nothing any one person can do" actually did something, just imagine what we could achieve together!
Wow, thank you! That's another bunch of tree seedlings we can plant - looks like stages 1-4 in total will see 33,700 trees in the ground and soaking up CO2.
Hey, thanks so much for that - every bit helps!! :)
Hey M, thank you SO much for this, we really appreciate it!
Thanks so much!! That's another bunch of trees we can plant. And yes, both of these are positive initiatives. The Better Ancestors billboards will, we hope, become more of a feature on our streets.
