From Aotearoa to the Himalayas - father & daughter trekking to support access to education and building of classrooms in the clouds of Nepal
Auckland
Kia ora, Hello and Namaste,
This November, I’m heading to Nepal’s Everest region, the Solukhumbu region, for the most intrepid adventure of my life. Even better, I get to do it alongside my Dad. But this isn’t just a bucket-list trip — we’re trekking with purpose: to raise funds for Classrooms in the Clouds (CITC).
CITC is a UK-based charity doing extraordinary work in Nepal - building earthquake-resistant classrooms, training female teachers, and removing barriers to education for girls and young women. In places where going to school can mean walking hours across steep terrain, CITC works in partnership with local communities for solutions to create opportunities for young people.
I first met CITC’s founder, Dawa Geljen Sherpa, in 2017 when working with the London Fire Brigade Fire Cadet Programme. His story will shift your perspective on what access to education really means.
As someone working in Aotearoa New Zealand's Education sector, I see how education transforms lives everyday - and both my Dad and I believe that education sets one up for life. But in Nepal’s remote villages, it’s not a given - it’s a challenge. That’s why my Dad and I are walking these mountains: to help bring education closer to home for those who need it most. With your help, we can make it happen.
Every dollar counts. What you give is helping build futures in the clouds — one classroom, one teacher, one student at a time.
Ngā mihi nui, thank you for your support. Let’s make every step count.
My Dad and I are participating in a charity trek that has been organised by Classrooms in the Clouds. On the trek we will visit some of the schools that have been built because of funds raised by CITC.
Delivering more projects in SoluKhumbu:
👩🏫Sponsoring teachers: $20 =1 day salary
🧱Building classrooms: $50 =70 bricks
📚Learning resources: $20 =3 books
🩷Supporting girls: $40 =3 menstrual kits
🚰 Infrastructure: $250 =Sink with clean running water
- Building classrooms in remote villages of Nepal. There are 9 schools that are featured on their website and 86 classrooms built to date
- Local production of menstrual kits, staffing to help support girls continue in education
Thank you for all your support and donations towards Classrooms in the Clouds! 30 December 2025
Kia ora koutou,
As 2025 comes to an end, my Dad and I just wanted to say ngā mihi nui and a huge thank you for all of your support and donations towards Classrooms in the Clouds (CITC). The trip to Nepal was the most rewarding experience of year for us - the beautiful country, people, culture and it was made even better to see the incredible work that CITC do in person.
Your donations on Givealittle have been converted into £GBP and deposited directly into CITC’s bank account. $2181 NZD raised supports a teacher’s salary for 3 months, or provides close to 300 books for a school library!
Thanks again for all your support and donations towards Classrooms in the Clouds. Wishing you all a wonderful 2026, ngā mihi o te tau hou!
