Walking for Domboreshato Primary School Tandi, Rusape Zimbabwe.
Bay of Plenty
Crossing paths with venomous snakes fetching water was my reality for 25 years in Zimbabwe were i was born and raised. I have left my knitting needles and swap them for my walking shoes. I set this challenge last year in September after completing my Knitting challenge to further aid the plight of the children of Domboreshato Primary School in Zimbabwe. On the 9 July 2016, I will be walking a distance of 21km balancing 20 litres bucket of water on my head. Growing up in a small village of Mandimika, carrying water was an everyday task, in most African countries this is mostly done by women. I started carrying 20 litres of water on my head when i was only 10 years old. A lot of women in Africa spend a quarter of their lives fetching water for everyday use.
My name is Faustinah Ndlovu i am 42yrs old i have been living in New Zealand for 14yrs. I am currently leading Tariro Project in Zimbabwe, working in partnership with villagers in Rusape to build a Community Early childhood development Learning Centre in Mawandu village, Tandi, Rusape Zimbabwe. Education is the single best investment in prosperity, healthy and equitable societies. One of Tariro Project's objective is to improve access and education for Early Childhood care and Education in the remote rural school of Domboreshato Primary School. Caring and stimulating children in their critical first six years of life is crucial.
Well done to the villagers who worked so hard with so little, this project has been a wonderful example of community empowerment and determination together with hard work. We are hoping that by end of July- August the community ECDL will be up and running. The money raised will go towards finishing the Community Early Childhood Learning centre building a toilet, fencing, chairs and tables for the classroom, reading books, a computer and a printer. Any surplus money will be used to establish a library for the school.
These kids have very little but have so much potential. Thank you for walking this life changing journey for these kids with us.

The concept of “Ubuntu”- an African term meaning humanity towards others -was and is still a very crucial concept in my village. It communicates a basic respect, empathy and compassion. “An injury to one is an injury all,” reinforces the village community sentiment.
