Raising funds to support rangatahi directly affected by the New Zealand Government’s decision to ban new prescriptions of puberty blockers.
Nationwide
"For me, hormone blockers were the light at the end of the tunnel. They pulled me out of the largest depressive episode of my life."
The New Zealand government has recently introduced a ban on new prescriptions of puberty blockers for children & adolescents with gender dysphoria, but there is no evidence supporting a ban on this care. A big list of health professional bodies and medical organisations have spoken out against the ban and in support of continued access to this care.
Puberty blockers are crucial to many trans people’s wellbeing & safety. They allow young people to pause puberty, staving off any discomfort or dysphoria attributed to a changing body. This care is time-critical & life-saving - even a six month delay accessing puberty blockers can have lifelong impacts for the young people that need them.
We’re working to ensure that every young person in Aotearoa who needs this care is able to access it, along with any other support they may need.
Every major medical body in Aotearoa opposes the decision, yet the wellbeing of trans children is being traded for political points. Together, we’re saying enough. If the Government won’t support our rangatahi, we will.
It’s important for trans rangatahi & their whānau to see that Aotearoa has their back.
This fundraiser is a collaborative effort between RainbowYOUTH, NZPOTC, & PATHA. Any funds raised will go directly to trans young people & their whānau to support them to access this critically important healthcare.
RainbowYOUTH is a youth-led, youth-centred charity supporting queer, gender diverse, takatāpui and intersex young people across Aotearoa through support services, safe spaces, education, advocacy and community building.
Costs to access healthcare and other forms of support through any available pathways, which may include accessing care overseas, costs of private appointments, and alternative interim medical and non-medical support options.
