This project has reached its target. You may still donate to this project if you wish.

Help the I'm Local Project get free LGBTIQ information, awareness and resources to rural communities all over our beautiful Aotearoa.

Nationwide

The I’m Local Project aims to help queer & gender diverse youth all over Aotearoa to feel valued, recognised and supported in their local communities.

Kicked off in 2014 by RainbowYOUTH, the I’m Local Project focuses on contacting high schools, medical centres, hospitals, libraries, marae and community centres in more rural or isolated area of Aotearoa and supplying them with free resources about gender and sexuality.

So far, we've delivered 60,000 booklets & posters to communities in Northland, wider Auckland, Waikato, Hawkes Bay, Bay of Plenty & Southland.

With almost daily requests for resources from organisations around the country, we're fast running out of these resources & posters.

So, we're asking Aotearoa to pitch in to help us print another 40,000 of these booklets and posters, so that we make sure we can keep up with the demand!

RainbowYOUTH's involvement (page creator)

Staff and volunteers from RainbowYOUTH created the I'm Local Project in 2014 as a way to help LGBTIQ young people in isolated rural communities.

About us

RainbowYOUTH (est.1989) is a charitable organisation dedicated to helping young queer and gender diverse (LGBTIQ) people up to the ages of 28, as well as their wider communities.

At RainbowYOUTH, we’re about fostering a safe, inclusive, accepting and diverse family environment. We are drug, smoke, and alcohol free.

Our motto is Know Who You Are, Be Who You Are. The Tiwhanawhana Trust in Wellington have gifted us a version of our motto in te reo Maori: Whaia to ake ngakaunui, i te pono, i te marama. Simply translated, it means: Follow your desires with truth and clarity

WE DID IT!  30 August 2016

With 5 days to go, we're so incredibly excited to share the hard work of the Two Hands Tattoo crew (pictured) in Ponsonby who raised $4320.00 towards our project and pushed us over the finish line by 19%.

The team at RainbowYOUTH would like to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts who donated and shared this crowdfunder. When we print our next batch of resources because of these funds, everyone that donated will be included in our 'donor wall in the resource.

We can't wait to see where the I'm Local Project goes next, and it's because of you all that we'll get there!

Big aroha from the team at RY!
