We need your help to help Alieta, a mum, grandmother, wife and sister from Samoa

$6,561 donated
Given by 50 generous donors in 8 weeks

A fundraising page to help pay for medical treatment for a beautiful samoan woman who has been suffering with no proper medical treatment

Tauranga, Bay Of Plenty

Alieta lives in Samoa and has been suffering with breast cancer for 4 years. 2 years ago she had a mastectomy however with no proper cancer treatment available the cancer has grown back. Alieta has a massive open wound from the mass on her breast, suffering with sepsis, chronic pain and a terrible diagnosis. My husband Mathew Faiumu is her eldest son and we live in NZ with our 2 young boys. We flew mum to NZ on Christmas Eve to celebrate Christmas, spend time with her 2 sons and 2 grandsons. When she arrived we could not believe the state she was in, the care she has received in Samoa is little to none and she has been suffering in silence for months and months. Unfortunately samoan citizens are not eligible for public funded medical treatment in New Zealand and she is in urgent need of care and treatment. We are currently in Tauranga hospital with her and we want to be able to give her every fighting chance and to stop her suffering. We are not the type of people to ask for help but right now we really need it!! We really appreciate all your love and support and we thank you for helping Alieta!!!

A little update on Mum  20 January 2024

Mum was doing well at home, completed her 2 weeks of IV Antibiotics at home which finished on Monday. We celebrated her 60th birthday on Thursday and she had a wonderful day!! Unfortunately we noticed the smell from the open wound was starting to return on Wednesday and yesterday it was quite bad so we contacted the amazing dr from Tauranga hospital who is looking after mum! We were back at the hospital today, more IV Antibiotics and continuous oral antibiotics as the infection has returned! Not great signs, fevers are back tonight so we are keeping a close eye on her…. We see the dr again on Thursday and hopefully we can start the chemo soon! Will post another update on Thursday!! Alieta is a true fighter, throughout it all she always smiles and laughs 😊 thank you again to everyone for your donations!!! Please share if you can!!

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
