Environment Centre Hawke's Bay need your help to move premises and stay open

$12,530 of $49,000 goal
Given by 128 generous donors in 7 weeks

We need your urgent help to move premises and keep the Hawke's Bay Environment Centre open

Hawke's Bay

We have a funding problem that needs to be resolved urgently so we can continue. We need to move, the Environment Centre building is being demolished. If we do not raise the funds in the next few weeks for our new premises, we will have to close the centre and specialist recycling service.

This comes at a time when Climate change awareness is driving a huge increase in demand for our service, with 200 to 400 people through our doors daily from across Hawke’s Bay learning to recycle and wanting to know more about other things they can do to reduce their climate impact, ensure food resilience, and adapt.

This year we diverted 100+ tons of electronic waste, plastics & other specialist recycling, provided advice to thousands of people though our centre & outreach, diverted 95% of event waste.

We do not charge our community for most services, including specialist recycling as we want it to remain accessible all. Unfortunately our funding doesn’t cover our specialist recycling services or match growing demand yet. We have a plan to bring in more funding, but we need short term help to keep the doors open and get us up and running in a new premises.

We also have a new strategic plan that broadens our focus across climate action, food resilience, equitable transition and adaptation for all (click to read https://www.environmentcentre.org.nz/strategic-plan).

We need your support to move urgently and broaden our climate action response. Please consider donating and/ or sharing. Thank you

Latest update

Thank you for all of your incredible support so far, we really appreciate it  3 August 2022

we are incredibly grateful for the support YOU, our community have shown us! We have raised $24,270 from our community to date to help us stay open. This has helped our board make the decision to move.

We are in ongoing discussions with Hastings District Council, Hawke's Bay Regional Council and Napier City Council about funding. We hope to have decisions from the councils this month. We are also in discussions with potential corporate sponsors and looking for more.

Based on all of these discussions we have dropped our give a little target to $49,000 to help us continue our service. We wouldn't be where we are without our community, from donating, to emailing and talking to our councils about the need to keep the Environment Centre service going, it has all helped....so a major thank you to you! We are asking for your support to share this campaign far and wide in one final last push to get us over the line and locked in for a year while we work on growing other streams of income.

At this time in the history of the Earth and all it's many and various life forms (including human beings/us!) it is beyond important that places like Environment Centre Hawkes Bay are well funded to do their vital work. I encourage everyone who can, to give what they can, according to their means.
