102km for Mary Potter Hospice

$3,450 of $3,000 goal
Given by 72 generous donors in 9 weeks

Running 102km to raise money for Mary Potter Hospice.

Wellington

This year, my family and I spent many days at the Mary Potter Hospice and around their Incredible Team, Doctors and Nurses. In November my Uncle Andrew, passed away from a long and hard fought battle with Cancer. Without their facilities, generosity, compassion, empathy and kindness, the last few months could have been far tougher. Mary Potter Hospice have supported people with life-limiting illnesses and their families or whānau for more than 40 years, in the way they want, where they want.

It goes without saying our healthcare providers have had it pretty rough the last 2 years and especially organisations like Mary Potter Hospice who need to fundraise a large chunk of money to keep being able to provide services free-of-charge. Every single year they need to raise $7 million, yes that’s right, $7,000,000 a year to ensure they can keep providing the care they provided my uncle and our family at the end of his life.

The Team at Mary Potter Hospice have turned into more of a Family now and we are forever grateful for the support, time and care they gave us over the last 10 months. My way of thanking them is to help raise as much as I can by running my first Ultramarathon on the 12th of February 2022.

Race Update  31 January 2022

Good evening everyone.

I just wanted to provide an update in light of recent events. As some of you may know already, the Tarawera Ultramarathon where I was supposed to run the 102km course as part of this fundraiser has been cancelled for 2022.

When I heard the news of the traffic light system coming into effect it was pretty much the nail in the coffin for the race. However, once I heard the news I immediately went into solutions mode. Actually, that’s not entirely true. I sulked for a few hours then went into solutions mode.

I’ve decided that I will still be going ahead with this challenge one way or another. In Rotorua on the 12th of February I’ll be doing my own version of the 102km run. How this looks will be decide closer to the time but the main thing to know is… it shall be done!

Thank you to every single one of you that have donated so far. I never had of thought so many people would rally behind this cause and contribute so many generous donations.

I’m forever grateful for you all.

Cheers,

Ben

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
