30 Marathons at 30 Years Old
Auckland
Ok so I have run a few Marathons time for a new challenge, I wanted to pick something that would be really really hard, both to challenge and push myself & raise awareness about Mental Health.
Being active (for me running) is an essential part of maintaining good mental health, I ran my first marathon in 2017 & raised some money for MHF. I clearly remember saying to myself 32km's into that race "never again", but I donned the purple shirt 3 times for marathons in 2018 at Rotorua, Wellington and Auckland. I have become more and more vocal about Mental Health the more races I complete, and everyone knows someone who has had their experiences with ill mental health or has had so themselves. We all have mental health, it is time to stop trying to hide.
Due to COVID-19 a lot of solo running will now take place which was not the initial plan
I turn 30 years old on 8th September 2019 and was looking for a milestone hence 30@30 was born.
From 8/9/19 - 7/9/20 - I will attempt to complete 30 marathons in one year, due to the number of races on in NZ I have allowed myself to run races that are longer than one marathon.
I encourage you to give whatever you can to help MHFNZ continue to do their great work.

Reducing the stigma associated with Mental Health issues is hugely important too me, speaking openly about your difficulties should be seen as a sign of courage and not of weakness.
