A half marathon for Megan

Auckland

It’s almost been a year, that my very special friend Megan Paish-Brown passed away. She was more than a friend, she was family.

Megan lived life. And in August 2023 she ran a half marathon, just a few months before she would be given a palliative cancer diagnosis in November and then pass away in December. It wasn’t the only long run Megan completed in her life, but as she would have unknowingly had fairly advanced cancer at that stage, to run this was a huge testament to her grit and determination. And somewhere along the journey of her initial hospital and then hospice stay, I promised her I would run a half marathon in her honour.

So on the 3rd of November, I will run the Auckland half marathon for Megan. In doing so, I hope to raise some money for two causes that were close to Megan’s heart. First, the Massey Vet Hospital who cared for Megan and Tony’s cat Manaia as she battled cancer. Megan put a lot of time into raising money for their Not So Lucky grant in the last year of her life, including by running that last half marathon. And second, the Mary Potter Hospice where Megan spent her final days celebrating her life. It was there that Megan was able to marry her partner Tony and spend time with the people she loved. The staff there did an incredible job looking after all of us. And if you knew Megan, you know she loved to support worthy causes.

So please give if you can and any words of support or suggestions of a hype song for my run playlist are welcomed too ❤️
