Alexa Grellet - IT Heavy Hitters Contender 2018

At the end of last year, a friend of mine suggested I joined IT Heavy Hitters for the 2018 edition. IT Heavy Hitters is a 12-week program where participants (IT professionals) are trained by professional coaches and helped with all aspects of theory and practical boxing. After 12 weeks of training, there is a big fight night where fighters from different boxing gyms are paired up and put in the ring to fight for 3x2 minute rounds.

As I'd never done boxing before, I thought that it could be a cool new thing to try. I was also keen to get involved because knew that this was an initiative to help raise funds for the Key to Life Charitable Trust - an organization that runs workshops and talks all around New Zealand to promote an open and stigma-free approach to talking about suicide and mental health.

Key to Life helps establish networks of people who support mutual trust, respect, kindness and consideration for all people at all times.

In my own way, this is what I found when I joined Wellington Boxing Gym as part of my IT Heavy Hitters journey. I am more than ever convinced that people have the power to change the dynamics of their own life and discover happiness in places they never thought was possible. That's exactly what Key to Life stands for, and I'd love to help raise every dollar I can to help this great cause
