We are fundraising for the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter for the work they did attempting to save Andy Wells on the Old Ghost Road.

Andy tragically died on the 31st March 2019 following a cardiac arrest whilst mountain biking on the Old Ghost Road, near Lyell. We will be forever grateful for the huge assistance that the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter gave at this time.

The helicopter responded quickly to the emergency beacon. We were in a remote and difficult to access location and they showed great skill and determination to lower the paramedic down through the trees to reach Andy. The responding paramedic showed huge sensitivity and understanding in what was a very traumatic time. Unfortunately, despite everybody's best efforts, they were unable to save Andy.

Andy was an extremely keen cyclist and doing something he loved and it seems appropriate that any money that we raise at this awful time can be used for the assistance of others in the future.

To the team that came in the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter, we would like to acknowledge all your efforts on the day, your support and sensitivity you showed the boys at that extremely difficult time, and also the professionalism shown on every shout/call out you receive. Thank you to everyone who tried to help Andy. I’m devastated, but the only comfort is that he was doing something he loved and looks so happy in the picture we’ve attached.
