Donald, Get Outta Ear: Brain Tumour Awareness Week Surgery Challenge

$790 of $200 goal
Given by 20 generous donors in 4 weeks

Fundraising for Brain Tumour Support NZ in International Brain Tumour Awareness Week

Canterbury

I have a brain tumour called Donald. He’s a bully. He’s growing into my left middle ear and might even knock out my auditory bones. This includes the stapes, the smallest bone in the human body. Donald, get outta ear! I’m challenging myself to a 2 hour surgery on November 3rd, during International Brain Tumour Awareness Week. All surgeries carry risks. I’ll need 1-2 nights in hospital and a week off. Please support Brain Tumour Support! They’ve provided resources, support and an incredible online community every step of the way. Their “Brain Box” support kit is my trump card. Every donation helps.

This will be my 4th surgery in 2 long years. Donald isn’t malignant, but he was the size of a large mandarin and causing hearing and balance issues. He’s growing around some of my cranial nerves, so we can’t just scoop him out. In January 2021, I had a 6 hour brain surgery and a whole week in hospital. Donald ended up the size of a chick pea! Then I developed hydrocephalus and needed another brain surgery. In December, I was diagnosed with breast cancer (“Ivanka”, but unrelated). This year I’ve had a successful lumpectomy surgery, plus chemo and radiation. Plus there’s been a pandemic! Now Donald is plotting a come-back. Donald, get outta ear!!!

I’m hoping this is my last surgery for a long time. I’m also hoping you can give a little and share a lot! Happy International Brain Tumour Awareness Week!

Arohanui to my family, friends, colleagues, medical team and Brain Tumour Support!

Kia ora y’all! I’ve had a great week, including an excellent follow up with my ear surgeon/otologist Mr Phil Bird. He’s really happy with how I’m healing and I feel like I’m bouncing back nicely, too (returning to work, being active and even socialising is going well!) I’d love us to raise $500 for Brain Tumour Support because they rock. I even went to my appointment in branded T-shirt and cap. Can you share my story and help me raise $500? We’re so close! Many, many thanks!
