Running London Marathon for MATES Matter NZ

Hamilton, Waikato

On 27th April we will be taking on the iconic London Marathon a massive 42.2km run.

This time we will be running for MATES and mental health.

MATES Matter NZ isn’t about grand gestures or fixing everything overnight. It’s about the power of showing up for the people around us. It’s about asking, “How are you, really?” and being there to listen. It’s about creating moments of connection that remind us we’re not alone, even in our toughest times.

Looking back, that pair of running shoes was more than just a purchase—they were a promise to myself that things could get better. And now, through MATES Matter NZ, that promise extends to others. We’re here to remind each other that even in the darkest moments, there’s light to be found in connection.

You never know whose life you might touch with a simple conversation or act of kindness. Together, we can build stronger, more supportive community—one mate at a time.

Everyone Has a Plan Until They Get Punched in the Face   14 March 2025

Bridget's personal update!

Mike Tyson once said, “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face.” Marathon training—and life—proves this true. We make plans, but injuries, setbacks, and unexpected challenges force us to adapt.

Success isn’t about sticking to the original plan; it’s about adjusting when things don’t go as expected.

Mental strength isn’t just about pushing through pain—it’s about flexibility. Training for the London Marathon, I’ve had to modify my approach due to plantar fasciitis. But my injury hasn’t, and won’t, stop me. Instead, it’s taught me to listen to my body, adjust my training, and lean on experts for guidance.

Mental resilience is understanding that setbacks don’t mean failure. They mean recalibrating, getting support from the right people, and moving forward in a new way.

Life works the same way. We map out careers, relationships, and goals, but reality often shifts. True resilience means recognizing setbacks aren’t failures—they’re opportunities to recalibrate. Strength comes not from going it alone, but from seeking the right support and trusting the process.

So when life (or marathon training) punches you in the face, remember: You can always shift your strategy, find new strength, and keep going.
