I'm doing Coast to Coast with a friend to raise funds for Pillars - a charity providing support to children who face unimaginable challenges
Canterbury
This year I have decided to push myself to finish the iconic Coast to Coast multisport race with a friend where I complete a bike and a relatively wild 70km kayak section down the Waimakariri River. In addition to proving to myself that I can do it, I am also raising some funds for the Pillars Charity.
I went through health battles of my own about a year ago and never thought that I would be ready for pushing my body like I have had to do with this training. But this challenge is absolutely nothing compared to what more than 23,000 young children in NZ are going through every day with parents in prison. Whereas I had friends and family around to support me, some of these young kids are forced to get through some unimaginable challenges without any support whatsoever and in some cases with a complete lack of meaningful role models.
For the last year I have mentored the most incredible 7-year old girl through Pillars and can honestly say that it has been an absolute game-changer for both of us.
Anything that you can offer to Pillars will hopefully help these gorgeous kids to have positive, crime-free futures (and break the statistic of being over 9x more likely than other Kiwi kids to end up in prison).
I mentor a young 7-year old girl through Pillars and the rewards that we get out of this programme are significant and game-changing.
