Canterbury

Young people living with cancer experience everyday life differently from me and you who are

healthy! In Canterbury alone young people aged 1324 living with cancer want as much of a normal life, so what can we do to make life easier for them?

Hi Everyone my name is Marlene, I am a local radio presenter on Plains FM and with your help we can ensure that these young people live an active and happy life.

About me, I present a fortnightly radio show called African Flava on Plains Fm which is proudly

supported by Beyonce Hair Extensions and New Zealand Aids Foundation and currently my goal

is to work alongside CanTeen and our community to raise money for young people living with cancer, even their siblings who tends to get left behind during those difficult times.

I had the opportunity to talk to Michelle and Brooke from Canteen in Christchurch, who told me about CanTeen and the work they do, the time they spend with these young people, and I'm just in awe of the hardwork, devotion and supportive work they do within Canterbury and the West Coast region. I felt so inspired that I to wish to give back to our community and where better to start than to devote my time to such a worthy cause.

If we can all take a minute to think about how easy it is for us to step out for a coffee, shopping at the mall, meeting up with friends, just anytime we want to really. Well these young people living with cancer can't exactly get up whenever they want to, it's when they feel well enough to enjoy the day.

The staff undertake the CanTeen's mission is to support, develop and empower young people

living with cancer in the Canterbury and the West Coast region. I humbly ask the help of our community to raise money so that there are funds available for these young people for when they

feel well enough to step out and go to the movies, experience a fun outing or just simply go out

for dinner.
