I will ride 450km across NZ to raise funds and awareness for Dementia.
Mapua, Tasman
I have cycling in my blood. Inspired by my father's unbreakable spirit after a near-fatal accident, I too took to the roads, undaunted by the dangers. However, fate had other plans - a devastating T-bone collision left me hospitalized with serious injuries. Undeterred, I fought back, enduring months of physiotherapy to regain my strength. Now, seven years later, I am saddling up once more, this time to honour my father and all those impacted by the devastating effects of dementia. In a gruelling 450km ride across New Zealand's South Island, I will tackle the Crown Range Summit, pedalling to raise awareness and funds for critical dementia research.
I will ride as part of Tour New Zealand (April 7th - 11th, 2025) with my partner Roddy for support, from Greymouth to the top of Crown Summit Range, over the duration of 5x days. Roddy's father also suffers from Dementia, so it would mean a lot to us, if you showed your support. Even a simple cheer, if you see us out on the road, will be a huge encouragement.
Additionally, I am putting together a non-fiction book full of short stories, written by those touched by dementia. As the mind clouds, stories become lifelines. Let the stories of dementia open your heart and share your story for others to hear. If you're interested in sharing your story and having it printed, please contact me for more details: katcousi@outlook.com
