Give displaced families in Syria a cleaner, safer way to cook. Your donation to ReliefAid can provide a family with a Fire for Life stove from Escea, a Dunedin, New Zealand-based company.

People in displacement camps rely heavily on open fires to cook meals, but open fires are dangerous, can’t be moved, and create air pollutants that make people ill. Open fires also need a lot of fuel to burn, so families buying firewood are literally seeing their meagre resources going up in smoke.

Thanks to the Kiwi ingenuity and generosity of Escea, displaced families in Syria will get a Fire for Life stove – a practical solution that works in the harshest of environments. The stoves, supplied and manufactured by Escea in New Zealand, are shipped to Syria where ReliefAid’s in-country teams assemble them and use its distribution networks on the ground to distribute them to families in need.

Your donation not only ensures the stoves get to where they are needed most, the more funds we raise, the more families will get their own stoves.

Donate to Fire for Life today and help bring peace of mind to families through the simple act of safe cooking.

Fire for Life continues into 2024, thanks to you!  28 March 2024

Thank you for supporting our Fire for Life programme in Syria!

With your help, combined with that of our partner and stove manufacturer Escea, we are starting a new round of distributions shortly. The newest batch of 1600 flat packed stoves left Escea in Dunedin, New Zealand in the early months of 2024. Their route to Turkey more protracted this time as, due to the problems in the Red Sea, they took the safer route around the Cape of Good Hope. Thankfully our partner OceanBridge took care of the shipping. Right now, they are being assembled ready for distribution to families in camps over the next couple of weeks.

The stoves will be distributed to families in displacement camps who are using open fires to cook their meals. As might be expected in a tented community, this is extremely dangerous due to both the fire hazard and the adverse health conditions created by smoke. Open fires also burn more fuel, which is both difficult to obtain and expensive. The portable and easy-to-use stoves give families living in camps a safer and cleaner way to cook. Based on feedback from previous distributions, we are now providing families with the option of having a larger stove top which will make cooking for larger families easier.

In Syria, approximately 6.8 million people have been displaced, underscoring the ongoing need for humanitarian aid. Thanks to your support we are providing 1600 families with peace of mind through better, safer cooking solutions!
