Fundraising for Breast Cancer Support Service Tauranga Trust
Aongatete, Bay of Plenty Region
Gaige (age 9) is a Year 4 student at Matahui School, and on Friday 22 May he is preparing to cut off three years of hair growth to donate to people experiencing hair loss.
What makes this extra special is that last year, his mum and a close family member were both diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent treatment.
Gaige decided to grow and donate his hair long before cancer touched his family, however, this makes his contribution even more meaningful.
He will be cutting his hair at Matahui School, surrounded by his classmates, teachers, and school community, as part of a student-led fundraiser raising funds for the Breast Cancer Support Service Tauranga Trust.
The Breast Cancer Support Service in Tauranga was a vital source of support for his mum during her treatment.
The day will also include a bake sale organised by Matahui's senior students, who are leading the fundraising efforts as part of a leadership initiative focused on helpfulness, compassion, and community.
The haircut is being held at school because Matahui places a strong focus on values and community.
Gaige has quietly lived out the school's values through this commitment. He is a thoughtful kid who just wanted to do something good for others.
If you'd like to support Gaige and help raise funds for a service that supports local people and families affected by breast cancer, we'd be incredibly grateful.
