George doesn't love heights, so this should be fun for everyone — part of 'Toss the Boss Ōtepoti 2026'
Dunedin, Otago
Dunedin, New Zealand — CloudCannon, the Git-based CMS company headquartered in Dunedin, today confirmed plans to drop its co-founder and CTO, George Phillips.
After careful consideration, CEO Mike Neumegen determined that George had reached a point where letting him go was the only responsible course of action. The team agreed: George needed to go over the edge.
Specifically, over the edge of Forsyth Barr Stadium's roof.
George will be abseiling from the top of Dunedin's iconic stadium to the pitch as part of Toss the Boss Ōtepoti, a fundraiser supporting Polyfest — a celebration of Pasifika culture through performance, music, and community.
"To be clear, we aren't firing George," said Neumegen. "We're just lowering him down a huge height on a rope. Which, honestly, might be worse from his perspective."
Those close to George describe him as a man who prefers his feet on solid ground, his code compiling, and his altitude measured in storeys of one or fewer.
The CloudCannon team have been described as "extremely supportive" in the sense that they will all be watching from the pitch and probably filming.
Jokes aside, you can sponsor George's descent (and his dignity) via this fundraising page — every dollar helps, and gives him one more reason he can't back out.
Toss the Boss Ōtepoti is back for 2026. This is your chance to step up, have some fun, and contribute to this amazing kaupapa.
