I am raising money for the Hawkes Bay Cancer Society by shaving my hair at the HBSS Relay for Life on Saturday the 6th of April.

Hawke's Bay

The Hawkes Bay community can be summed up in a few words; kind, accepting and passionate. It is these words that come to mind whenever attend the annual Hawkes Bay Relay for Life held at the Hastings Sports park, an event organised and run by the HB Cancer Society. This event is the highlight of the year for many schools, groups and organisations and after hearing of its cancellation for 2019 the HB Secondary schools community knew that it was an event to important for us to miss.

Over the past few weeks Myself along with other leaders around HB Schools have been organizing and planning to host a 'mini relay' held at Taradale High School on the 6th of April. The event is aimed at secondary school students to come and run laps of our 400 meter track while raising money for the HB Cancer Society. We currently have 10 schools attending, bringing up to 3 teams of 30 students.

But I have decided that I want to challenge myself and put myself out of my comfort zone. Over the past few years at school I have seen many of my peers participate in the "Hair Chop" where they raise money with the proceeds going towards Cancer research, Hospices and to Children living with Cancer. After all the donations get collected the student would have their hair cut off, usually getting turned into wigs. I think that this would be a great way to raise money for this great cause and I have decided to get my head shaved at the Relay for life. All money raised will go to the Cancer society and will help people and their families battling this terrible illness.

Due to the cancellation of the annual Relay for Life, Secondary schools around HB have come together to create our own event held at THS on the 6th of April. For this event I want to do a head shave to raise as much money as possible for this great cause
