Heart Surf - Sponsor a Relay Surf to raise funds for Vickie's Cancer Medication

Heart Surf is a fundraising event to raise funds for Vickie and Ryan Hudson-Craig who are having to self-fund Vickie’s cancer treatment. www.melanomaheart.co.nz tells the full story and the desperate battle they face to keep Vickie on her medication.
Inspired by the record of the World’s longest surf, their friends came up with the idea of trying to start the longest relay surf in Sumner during the nation’s favourite surf festival*. From 6am Friday 5th April a small team of local legends will take part in a 36 hour, continuous, surf relay at Sumner Beach.
Please donate to sponsor the surfers who are taking part to raise funds for Vickie.
Vickie's medication costs just over $7 an hour so a $15 donation will pay for 2 hours! Each surfer will be doing at least an hour of the relay so let's keep the surfers going and try and raise as much we can!
*Please note that while we are delighted to be sharing the beach with The Single Fin Mingle over the period of our fundraiser, the two events are in no way associated.

Treatment Update 22 September 2024
Thank you so much for all of your support for Vickie since this page was opened.
Vickie's medication has sadly stopped working and she has been taken off treatment. This is obviously devastating news for the family and the tumours have grown significantly in the short time since the treatment stopped.
The family are seeking all alternatives and looking for medical trials but we wanted to update all those who have so kindly donated. It is hoped that Vickie will still be able to live a full and happy life for the remainder of her time. There is no prognosis due to the uncertainty of her condition but without treatment time will be shorter than it should be.
There are still funds available that have not yet been spent on medication and these will be used for alternative treatment options (unknown at this stage), making some small dreams come true or supporting the family in general as they navigate this uncertain time. Ryan and Ruby certainly will need all the help they can get in the future and we are so appreciative for all of your donations.
