Heather’s Hike support the wonderful work of KidsCan
Auckland
In 2017, my husband and I walked the 800km Camino de Santiago in Spain and in 2019 we returned to walk 350kms from Porto to Santiago. Following these walks, I wanted to undertake a walk in New Zealand to support an organisation, who I believed contributed significantly to helping the people of Aotearoa New Zealand. And so in November 2019 I walked 125km from Clevedon to Waihi over 5 days to raise money for Red Cross. This year Kids Can has been on my mind, with the wonderful work they do to support our children and to give them the best possible opportunities in life. The task is huge and I know they need every dollar of support that is given. This time I have decided to walk from Hunua to Hamilton over 5 days following the Te Araroa Trail where possible. I will walk an average of 25kms a day, finishing at the Botanical Gardens in Hamilton. l leave Auckland on Monday November 16th and arrive in Hamilton on Saturday November 21st. Last year I raised $3500 for Red Cross through generous sponsorship and I would love to think I might raise more for Kids Can. If you would like to sponsor me, please visit my Give a Little page. Thank you so much for your support.
I plan to walk from Hunua to Hamilton (110 kms) following part of the Te Araroa Trail, over 5 days. I am 71 years old and have done a lots of tramping including 800kms across Spain and 350kms across Portugal and Spain last year.
Hiking to Hamilton for Kids Can completed today 21 November 2020
Today on my fifth day of walking, my friend Marion and I walked from Ngaruawahia to Hamilton Gardens, a total of 26kms. Over the past 5 days we have walked 120km and walked close to 200,000 steps. Starting at Hunua, we have walked to Mercer, Rangiriri, Huntly, Ngaruawahia and finally Hamilton Gardens. I have shared the experience with friends along the way including the tramping club on Tuesday. This has been the most wonderful experience. The most stunning of scenery and perfect weather each day. I am so delighted to have been able to raise more the $3500 for Kids Can so far. May it be a great blessing to all those children who benefit from it. Thanks you so much for all your support and encouragement. i am so blessed by you. I include a few photos of the last day today. Love and Blessings Heather xxxx
