Fundraising for BirdCare Aotearoa’s baby bird season – to ensure we have enough space in our nest for wild birds in need.

Auckland

Like you, we care about all wild birds. Every day, we rehabilitate and release wild birds back into nature and inspire others to care for our precious feathered friends. Every year, we admit over 6,000 birds to our hospital. Around half of these come through our doors during spring and summer – mostly baby birds who require round-the-clock care. Like you, we want to see every one of these birds thrive in the wild.

As a charity, the past couple of years have really stretched us. Demand for our services is steadily increasing. Last year saw our highest patient numbers on record and, with this year’s admissions up 20% from last year, we expect this spring to be even busier. Climate change means longer baby bird seasons – and even more rescued little ones to care for.

As our costs continue to increase, we’ve reached a point where we need more support if we’re to keep our doors open for wild birds. Turning away birds isn’t something we ever want to do. We want to ensure there's enough space in our nest for wild birds in need.

Through this crowdfunding campaign, we’re hoping to raise $15,000. This will go towards food, essential medication and housing for the 2,500+ birds we’ll care for this spring and summer, plus help support our small team working around the clock to care for them.

Your donation will help save the lives of these birds – and there’s never been a more critical time for your support. Please help us continue to give wild birds a second chance at life.

Baby birds at BirdCare Aotearoa - Update for the start of summer! 😎  1 December 2022

We are hugely grateful for your donation during our Generosity Generator campaign, and would like to share a cute photo of one of the special young patients which your donation has helped us to care for during spring. It is one of the two gorgeous, fluffy ruru/morepork chicks we currently have in care. We have raised many chicks during baby bird season so far, including tūī, tauhou/silvereyes, warou/welcome swallows, poaka/pied stilts, pūkeko, various ducklings, pigeons, sparrows, blackbirds and song thrushes, among others 🦉

Here are 3 FREE ways you can support BirdCare Aotearoa this summer, to help us to save more precious baby wild birds 🐥

1 - You can make your donation go 33% further for BirdCare Aotearoa by registering with our partner Supergenerous, who will then collect the receipts from charities you have donated to within the past 4 years, and claim the tax rebate from IRD on your behalf. They will then donate the rebate to BirdCare Aotearoa if you wish. It is very quick and easy to register!

Supergenerous will also give BirdCare Aotearoa a bonus donation of $200 if we have 25 people register in time for them to claim rebates before the end of December. If we get 100 people, they’ll bump that up to $1,000! That would make a wonderful Christmas gift for the baby birds 🎁

2 - If you are unsure what you would like your family to buy you for Christmas, perhaps you could consider setting up a gift registry at The Good Registry for BirdCare to receive donations in your honour.

The Good Registry is a non-profit which makes it easy for people to ask for and receive charity donations instead of physical gifts 🥰

3 - We are currently seeking corporate sponsorship to help support BirdCare Aotearoa - If you have contact with a business which you think might be interested in supporting BirdCare Aotearoa wild bird hospital’s charitable work saving the lives of rescued wild birds and supporting communities, please email the contact name and business details, along with a description of your relationship to the company to support@birdcareaotearoa.org.nz

Thank you very much for your support! Our team BirdCare Aotearoa greatly appreciates your help with providing care for wild birds in need, and releasing them healthy and strong back into the wild where they belong 💚

We hope you have a wonderful summer! ☀
