Help Refugees and Solo Mums on the Road to Success

$10,730 of $10,000 goal
Given by 99 generous donors in 5 weeks

Let's help more refugees and solo mums to gain independence and be job-ready.

Auckland

Migrant Action Trust (MAT) helps migrants and former refugees from arrival to employment and integration in New Zealand. For Mother's Day on 8th May, MAT is on a mission to remove financial barriers for 10 refugee-background solo mums by gifting them 5-10 free driving lessons and getting their practical driving test fees sorted.

Help us help Aotearoa’s new settlers especially solo mums to secure meaningful employment and overcome the barriers to getting a driver licence. An NZ drivers licence opens up job opportunities for them and gives a sense of belonging, while building their independence and improving well-being for the whole whānau.

The NZTA recommends 120 hours of driving for learners to be test-ready. But this is a huge challenge for former refugees who have no access to a practice car, no driving coach/supervisor and no funds to pay for lessons with a qualified driving instructor. All on top of language and literacy barriers!

Every dollar counts to make a world of difference for new settlers especially refugees from Afghanistan, single mothers applying for jobs and mothers with special needs children. Each month we aim to help 10 new settlers to pass their driving tests - that's 10 families each month gaining independence, job opportunities and improving their well-being in Aotearoa.

We also invite you to join our team as a volunteer! Give the gift of your time and help a young learner gain confidence behind the wheel. Give an hour a week to help a new migrant learn English. Donate one hour a month to help bring needed supplies to a family in isolation. There are lots of ways to support our community of service users and become a permanent member of the MAT Community!

Again, thank you for supporting our mahi and our diverse communities!
