Supporting those who support others.
Nationwide
At Drenched, we believe everybody deserves support, but not everyone receives it. Our work focuses on providing support for siblings and children of those with high support needs.
We define “high support needs” as anything from intellectual and physical disabilities, to terminal illness and mental health conditions. Children growing up in a household caring for someone with these needs can often suffer from neglect and abuse, and are also at higher risk of experiencing parentification as they can become carers from a young age. This can be very isolating as they navigate adolescence, these children often have to process complex emotions before they are developmentally ready. This can have lasting effects on their mental health and wellbeing. Often these children struggle to speak about their experiences as they do not want to add to the negative stigma that is surrounding the disabled community.
Drenched works to bring these children and siblings together in a supportive and understanding environment while providing access to support groups, therapy, and hardship scholarships. These resources are beneficial as they work to build community, give these children the necessary tools to process complex emotions, and provide them the help needed to understand their experiences and heal from trauma.
Help us to raise 12K in 12 days to support even more children growing up in a household caring for someone with high support needs throughout Aotearoa.
Because everyone deserves support.
Drenched is a New Zealand Charity that works to provide support for children and siblings of those with high support needs. We define support needs as anything from intellectual and physical disabilities to mental health issues and terminal illness.
