10 hours of high intensity cycling videos on a wind trainer to raise funds for Neurological Foundation.
Auckland
There are those who know how to suffer. And there are those who do not know how not to suffer. There are those who look pain in the face and laugh. There are those who can’t look pain in the face because pain is too scared to look up from the pounding it’s getting. Yes, there are Sufferlandrians. And then there are Knights of Sufferlandria. To be awarded the highest honor accorded by the Sufferlandrian Ministry of Madness, one must simply do 10 Sufferfest videos, back-to-back.
But that suffering is nothing - compared to the level of suffering and premature death from diseases of the brain and nervous system. Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s and motor neurone diseases, stroke, multiple sclerosis, migraine, epilepsy and traumatic brain injury are just a few of the wide spectrum of disorders that are the focus of the research funded by the Neurological Foundation of New Zealand. These disorders are brutal and uncompromising, and with the rapid growth of New Zealand’s ageing population, an epidemic of neurodegenerative disorders is predicted in the coming decades.
Currently, the treatment options for these disorders are extremely limited, and cures do not yet exist. However, research carried out by New Zealand’s world-leading neuroscientists, and funded by the Neurological Foundation, has provided extraordinary insight into brain disease, and illustrates the global significance of the dedicated work being carried out in this country. Further, this work provides hope for the one in five New Zealanders who will be struck with a brain disorder in their lifetime.
My mother died of Motor Neurone Disease in 1997 - its a horrible, debilitating disease.
Have you suffered today?
I have experienced watching my mother suffer through Motor Neurone Disease with great dignity and strength. Given the chance I would happily trade 10 hours on a wind trainer.
I can't trade - but I can push myself over a prolonged period. If I achieve my goal I will be the 5th New Zealander to become a Knight of Sufferlandria (the greatest mythical nation in the world…).
