Ironman New Zealand 2019 - Raising money for the Mental Health Foundation
Wellington
Hi All
In reaching age 40 last year I decided to run a marathon in an attempt to try to beat the sort of time I used to run 10-20 years ago. This was a vain attempt to prove to myself that I'm every bit as fit at 40 as I was at 30 (some might call it a mid-life crisis!). Shock, horror...I didn't quite get the time I was looking for, though I blame it on the freezing, wet, windy day that Wellington put on for us runners.
This year I decided to up the ante. Rather than just running a marathon, I thought I'd warm up with a 3.8km swim and 180km bike ride! Maybe I've bitten off more than I can chew - hopefully not!
Ironman New Zealand is the most iconic ironman event in the world after the Hawai'i ironman in Kona. It's been going for 35 years. I've done it once -10 years ago. My aim will be to get within 30 mins of my time then which means beating 10hrs 48mins. If you want to track me on the day, download the ironman oceania app onto your phone and search for me by surname or race number (939).
Like last year, I'm trying to raise a little bit of money for the Mental Health Foundation. I'd be grateful for any donations big or small.
Thanks heaps
Dan
P.S. I may be in a bit of discomfort in the week after the race, so go easy on me!
Like many New Zealanders I've had personal experiences with people suffering from mental illness and would like to raise a little bit of money to help out.
