Jen and Tim go dry for July!

Tim has had a rare blood cancer (an MPN - myeloproliferative neoplasm) for many years. His condition has been progressing recently and he made the decision - nudged on by a surprise diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) in April - to undergo a Stem Cell Transplant (SCT). SCTs can be gruelling and high risk but offer the chance of a cure and we are feeling very fortunate to have this opportunity.

On 1st of July, Tim began his transplant journey at the Motutapu Ward at Auckland Hospital. As a result Tim has no option but to be dry in July. Jenny does have the option but has decided to join him. Those of you who know her well will know what a loving gesture this is!

Many people have been asking how they can help us at this time. We have had lots of practical and emotional support. We have asked people to donate blood If they can. For those who are not eligible to be blood donors, or who would like to do something else to help others who are in a similar situation to Tim, we would like you to support our own informal dry July.

Any funds raised will go to the Leukaemia and Blood Cancer Foundation, who actively support people with MPNs as well as more common blood cancers in New Zealand.
