Please help our beautiful Lydia be more mobile and independent.
Takapuna, Auckland
Lydia aged 8, was born with a rare condition PFFD where she has a small femoral head, undeveloped hip and shorten right femur. Lydia has undergone lengthening surgeries in the US along with a sling hip. These surgeries were not avail in NZ.
Lydia wears a prothesis to help her to walk but tires very easily on longer distances. We have done lots of research into mobility equipment as most is designed for adults only. We came across Travelscoot who have a compact mobility scooter than can be adapted from approx age 6 right through to adulthood. We have been testing the scooter for the last month it has been a game changer for Lydia to be independent and be able to keep up with her peers. This is more than just a scooter for her it is enabling her to be a part of the everyday world in a way she has never been able to before.
Sadly in New Zealand she is not 'disabled enough' to qualify for anything like this on the public system, we have approached some organisations that provide grants and hope we will get some help there, but the rest will be on us to fundraise. Unfortunately, we are not in a financial position to buy this ourselves due to the huge debts we have form her US surgeries, please help us to achieve this for our beautiful girl she just wants to be independent and a part of things with her friends.
All funds raised on this page will be used towards the scooter (any extra funds will be put towards her medical costs, which we are fundraising for here: https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/to-give-a-little-girl-her-dream-of-having-her-own)
Keeping faith we can make this happen 🙏🏻
