Southland

Friday 31 July - Saturday 1 Aug

Mick and I will be attempting to 'Everest' the McNearly Gnarly jump trail in Fernhill, Queenstown to raise funds for HeartKids charity.

What is 'Everesting'?

“FIENDISHLY SIMPLE, YET BRUTALLY HARD.

EVERESTING IS THE MOST DIFFICULT

CLIMBING CHALLENGE IN THE WORLD.”

The concept of Everesting is fiendishly simple: Pick any hill, anywhere in the world and complete repeats of it in a single activity until you climb 8,848m – the equivalent height of Mt Everest.

Any everesting is a battle but the nature of this course will make this one even tougher. 129m gained per up-trail means we need to do 70 laps to be sure of achieving our target. The downhill section is a lot of fun but very tough on the body and not particularly fast. Our target time for the challenge is to complete the laps in 22 hours. No sleeping allowed.

To add further to the challenge we're planning to do this in the heart of winter so add likely freezing temperatures, possible rain and the majority in darkness. Having both competed in our fair share of challenging sporting events (cycling & running) we are no strangers to a challenge; however this one is going to be a whole new level of suffering.

WHY on earth would you want do do this?...Is probably what you are all thinking. Fair. The purpose is to raise as much as we can for HEART KIDS SOUTHLAND charity. Heart Kids is a local charity that support kids who are born with heart defects. Based in Invercargill they have helped many families from Southland to Otago.

"Heart Kids is here to help at every step of the heart journey – from when a heart condition is diagnosed, through childhood, the teenage years and into adulthood. Our practical and emotional support is vital for all those affected, helping individuals and families cope with the day to day challenges of living with a childhood heart condition."

The two of us are fortunate enough to be in a position to be able to attempt this challenge so would like to do everything we can to help those less fortunate.

So, what can you do to support us you say!? Not a lot! Simple as donating few $$ to this amazing charity! Click the link, add a few details and there you go, easy as that. Then sit back and watch the entertainment! For those of you here in NZ we would love to have you come join us for a lap or 2...come Saturday we will be battling so smiling faces and bit of chat will give us a huge boost! Biking or not we would love to see you all there (we will have an area set up at the bottom of the trail). Regardless of that PLEASE donate where you can!

Plan is to start 3PM Friday 31 July with an estimate finish time of 1PM Saturday 1 Aug. Likely to change, we will be providing live coverage and updates!

Thanks for your time and support,

Mick & Myles.
