Heart Kids Southland support the families of children throughout their life who are diagnosed with heart defects.
This year will be our 8th Charity ride for Heart Kids Southland. We will be cycling from Milford Sound to Invercargill again this year, it looks to be bigger than ever.
Tania McKenzie (one of Jason Gerken's good clients), was speaking of her 14 year old son Flynn, who was born with half a heart, and his time spent in Starship Children's Hospital in Auckland. It was a no-brainer for Jason. He had found a worthy local charity and the ride was born.
The ride was created by Steven Rhodes (a local car dealer), and Jason Gerken (a local hair stylist), who shared an interest in road cycling and decided to put their love for the sport to support a great cause.
Between 30 and 40 riders will start in Milford Sound at 5am on Saturday 10th November. The route will take them via Te Anau, Blackmount and Otautau, to finish in Invercargill early in the evening, after completing some 300Kms of challenging road and weather conditions. The cyclists will be riding as a group, raising funds for, and awareness of, this fantastic charity.
When you make a donation to this fundraising page, your donation will be used to support Heart Kids and their families within the Southland region.
Your donation will be accepted as recognition of the effort made by the riders in completing this 13 hour journey. As we get confirmation of the cyclists participating we will add their names to the updates page. If you wish to support particular cyclists, please enter their name(s) in the comments field of your donation. The money will be used by Heart Kids Southland to assist heart kids and their families throughout their lifetime of treatments.
Each week in NZ, 12 babies are born with a heart defect. Heart Kids Southland provides support to over 100 families in our region who have a child with Childhood heart disease. We provide support by way of travel assistance for medical treatment, family events and funding to go to camps for heart kids. Support is provided through life.
