In memory of my grandparents I'm donating my hair and raising funds for three worthy charities.
Canterbury
Hi, I’m Hannah!
Here’s why I’m doing this here fundraiser:
In June 2015 my paternal grandma Betty suffered a catastrophic stroke, and wasn't expected to live more than a few weeks, yet somehow determined to stay with us for nearly 13 months. With the first anniversary of her death coming up on July 13th I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to honour her and my two other deceased grandparents by donating my hair to be made into a wig and raising funds for three deserving charities.
The charities I have chosen are the Cancer Society, Stroke Foundation, and St John. Why? Well they’re charities that are very close to my heart.
Lung cancer nearly took my maternal grandma Elaine when she was 49, we were very lucky to have her survive the disease and had another 19 years with her before she died of a stroke in her sleep in 2011.
My paternal grandad Kim was diagnosed with stomach and bowel cancer on a Tuesday in the summer of 2013, he lived another six days, dying the following Monday. With such a late stage diagnosis we were fortunate to be able to say goodbye to him before he passed.
For a long time my paternal grandparents were big supporters of St John, and so I would like to continue supporting the charity on their behalf.
I’ve opted to have an open goal but ultimately I would love to be able to raise $230, the sum of my grandparents’ ages when they died. The end date of July 17th is the date of the big chop! Those of you who know me can attest to the fact that I’m very, literally and figuratively, attached to my hair. I will be taking photos and uploading to my Instagram: aislingeach_21.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this wee spiel, and thank you for your consideration to donate!
I'm cutting off a whopping 14" of hair and donating it to be made into a wig.
