Quitting Facebook and Twitter for a whole month to help my wellbeing and lead by example for my girls. Help me!
Nationwide
I will quit (and delete) Facebook and Twitter for a whole month.
I’ve been aware of using my phone way too much for a while. Those pesky social media “likes” aren’t healthy for me, constantly picking up my phone. Having emigrated to NZ, I find my human connections are important, both to people back home and to new people here. But I need to achieve those connections in a different way. I’m aware of increasing evidence showing adverse effects on mental health especially for vulnerable teenagers, and want to bring up my girls with a healthier relationship with technology than I think I’ve shown them so far. Lead by example!
I will access Facebook messenger for those who want to contact me.
I hope people who know me know how challenging this will be for me, and donate to Mental Health Foundation NZ in my stead.
I want to spend less time on my screens, knowing it adversely affects my mental health and wanting to model healthy online behaviour to my children from early on. So supporting a mental health charity while I avoid social media for a month is a no-brainier!
