Sponsored walk - Five peaks, 2800m elevation, 50 km walk in 16-24hours
Okato, Taranaki
As vets on farm and in the community, we see farmers and members of the Okato community on a regular basis. We enjoy working within the Okato wider community and love the vibe in the good times. However, we also see times where members of this community need a bit of help. This may be just a chat with a neighbour, a coffee or a beer. Sometimes we need more, and this is where the Taranaki Rural Support Trust has been helping.
A team from Okato Veterinary Clinic: Clarissa and Pete with support from Stacey and Rosie and others from the Clinic are going to attempt the Five Peaks Challenge weather permitting in February 2023.
The Five Peaks Challenge is a continuous adventure trek from Dawson Falls to Paritutu. On the way we will climb Fanthams Peak, Mount Taranaki, Pouakai Peak, Patuha Peak and then hike into New Plymouth to climb Paritutu Rock. This will take us 16-24 hours to complete.
The wonderful people who run Taranaki Rural Support Trust will ensure the “Five Peaks Challenge” money will be spent to help the mental health of the Okato wider community. They will be discreet with the funds and we will not know who gets the money, but we will be happy in the knowledge that it is going where it is needed most.
All Set to Go! (3 am Saturday 4th March) 3 March 2023
This summer has been so changeable with Cyclones, rain and freak snow events delaying our start by over a month but tomorrow we are all set to go! The clouds are due to clear by midnight and we will get a full moon tonight too. We will start from Dawson's fall at 3.00 am .
( We were delayed so long that the givealittle page expired! )
