Traversing 250km of the Patagonian Andes in aid of Kidney Kids NZ.
Auckland
This year I'll be taking part in the Racing the Planet roving race in Patagonia (near host town Bariloche, Argentina). RTP Patagonia is a 250km foot race over 6 stages/7 days, with four days of approximately marathon-distance, one long day (approx. 80km) and a final day of 10km. It's a self-supported race, meaning I will be carrying all food and mandatory equipment on my back - only tents (at the end of each stage) and water are supplied.
In addition to the personal challenge of completing this race I am fundraising for Kidney Kids NZ. My sister remembers and appreciates the support they gave her when she was dealing with kidney issues when she was young; the work they do to support and educate families of children with kidney problems definitely has an impact.
Training! 7 September 2017
With less than 3 months to go my training is definitely well underway (training plan included a variety of trail races throughout the year), though not without its ups and downs.
I'm refining my gear - my gear decisions have always been pretty solid, but the aim is always to get a lighter pack given we have to carry it the whole time - and testing out new products in training, as well as training with a pack now.
I'm supported by Pure Sports Nutrition for this race. Their products mean that the 14,000 calories (minimum) I have to carry will be lighter, which helps.
Otherwise, I've got flights and mandatory paperwork sorted, so now it's the final training and gear testing and I'm off to Argentina!
