Sarah and Elsie take on the 12ks of Christmas for Project Island Song - 2025
Paihia, Northland
We’re a mother–daughter duo who are passionate about the Bay of Islands and the incredible work of Project Island Song 💚
Having lived in this beautiful place for many years, we’ve been lucky enough to experience the stunning native flora and fauna that make our islands so special. As keen walkers and nature lovers, we’re taking on the 12Ks of Christmas to raise both funds and awareness for this vital conservation work
We’ll be sharing updates along the way — and we’d be so grateful if you could donate whatever you can to help protect the place we’re proud to call home. Every contribution truly makes a difference.
Elsie & Sarah 💚

Project Island Song is a pest-free wildlife sanctuary covering seven islands in the eastern Bay of Islands. The community conservation partnership works to restore and protect the natural eco-systems and heritage of the Bay of Islands so that it is here for everyone, forever.
Since 2009, the project has eliminated pests from the islands, reintroduced 8 vulnerable native species, planted over 43,000 native trees, and engaged thousands of tamariki with our unique natural environment.
By sponsoring us to take part in the 12ks of Christmas, you’re helping to continue the restoration of these islands through supporting vital work including pest surveillance and control, volunteer weedbusting trips, reintroducing species, and more.
🌿Days 4 and 5 of the 12ks of Christmas!💚 6 December 2025
04/12/25: 4kms
- Sarah got her 4kms in on a brisk walk up to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, no doubt had beautiful views of the Bay of Islands on the way!
- Elsie and her partner Rowan discovered the track on the other side of the Rainbow Falls river snapping a pic at the picturesque Kerikeri Basin on the way. How lucky are we to have such beautiful places on our doorsteps!
05/12/25: 5kms
- Sarah walked along the gorgeous Haruru Falls track, snapping some excellent pics along the way. The waterfall, boardwalk through the mangroves, birdsong and beautiful bush makes this walk a favorite!
- Although less scenic, Elsie ramped up her 5km by running this one and it felt awesome! After recovering from a running injury, the 5km was the perfect way to ease back into it!
Thanks everyone for following along and giving your support! 💚
