Participating in The 12ks of Christmas for Project Island Song - 2025
Manawatu / Whanganui
From 1st to 12th December, I will be completing the 12ks of Christmas challenge for Project Island Song.
New Zealand's pristine beauty has inspired my poetry and writing my entire life, so now it's time for me to give back and help preserve our environment for future generations to enjoy 🩷
I’ll be taking on the Traditional 12ks of Christmas, where I’ll be building up a km of running or walking for 12 days straight – on Day One I’ll complete 1km, Day Two I’ll complete 2km, and so on until the final day when I’ll be running/walking 12km, for a total of 78km across the 12 days.
Project Island Song is a pest-free wildlife sanctuary covering seven islands in the eastern Bay of Islands. The community conservation partnership works to restore and protect the natural eco-systems and heritage of the Bay of Islands so that it is here for everyone, forever.
They did it! 15 December 2025
Huge congratulations and thanks to the 20 absolute heroes who completed their 12ks of Christmas challenges on Friday!
It's been an immense effort from all of them, covering huge distance in the unseasonably hot early December weather.
Alongside their physical efforts, they have all done an incredible job of engaging with their community and networks, raising more than $21,600 towards the restoration of the islands. This is a huge contribution, breezing past the $15,000 raised last year, and the fundraising page will still be open for donations until 31st December.
Massive thanks are also due to everyone who has donated to support our participants. What an awesome way to end the year!
Check out this little video we've put together to celebrate their efforts. Meri Kirihimete!
