Raise money for Whangarei mental health charity in honour of my sister, an a inspiring mental health nurse.
Northland
Please help me raise money for this excellent Whangarei mental health charity by running the Queenstown half marathon.
Last year my sister Sophie Hartmann died from Multiple Sclerosis. She trained as a Psychiatric Nurse in 1987 and was my inspiration to follow suit and become a mental health nurse myself, a decision I have never regretted. Her own mental health suffered greatly as a consequence of her illness. I think of Sophie when I run - however difficult I'm finding it, I feel so lucky to be physically able to do it. To be able to exercise in a beautiful location is one of the best ways to manage stress and feels like a fitting way to honour her memory. Running is also one of the best tools to develop mindfulness skills and to value process over results. Just as well with my pitiful speed! I'm hoping I make it round the 21K, but it's going to be a slog!
I am a mental health nurse working in Whangarei. Skills for Life is an exceptional primary mental health service in both quality and in philosophy. It provides a high quality research based clinical service which is affordable and does not discriminate against people with low income. Charity status is essential to this philosophy - your donation will help this excellent work to continue in our community.
