Rev Deborah's 60th birthday run . Raising funds for Heart Research and Vaccines in the Developing World.
Wellington
On Sunday 19th September I will be 60. To celebrate this-and to convince myself that I am still not past it- I will be running (more precisely jogging) 5k in Wellington. I've been doing this regularly but I'm doing this one to raise funds for two causes: 1. The Heart Foundation- both my parents died prematurely from CVD and it remains NZ's and the world's number one killer. 2. The 'Get A Shot, Give A Shot' campaign to raise money for vaccines in the developing world. 4 billion vaccine doses have been administered globally. Whilst 27.6% of the world's population has received at least one dose of a vaccine, only 1.1% of people living in low income countries have received even one dose. World population grew from 5.3 to 7.5 billion between 1993 and 2017 yet over the same period the number of people in extreme poverty fell from 1,9 billion to 689 million. This remarkable rate of progress stands to falter if we can't combat covid as a global community together. Let's do this. Please sponsor me. Thank you.
