I'm 13 & raising funds and awareness for baby loss on a Harley because it's loud and impossible to ignore - just like baby loss should be
Auckland
Hi, I'm Krystal. I'm 13 years old.
I lost my brother Alexander (born at 32 weeks), my sister Ailsa (born at 24 weeks) and my cousin Kovii (6 days old).
Baby loss effects one in four pregnancies. There needs to be more support for Mums, Dads, sisters and brothers who have lost their babies.
Baby Loss Awareness week runs from 9-15 October. I want to help raise awareness of baby loss and get people talking about it and talking about their babies this October.
Sands supports people after they lose a baby and I'll be donating any money raised to them.
One of the things that makes me most upset about the babies I have lost is the things they'll never get to do.
One of my favourite things is going on the back of my Dad's Harley. It's something these babies will never get to do so I'm going to take them on a ride with me and my Dad.
My Dad's Harley is loud and impossible to ignore - just like baby loss should be.
The details:
Every donation will add another ribbon to my jacket. If you would like us to write your babies name on the ribbon please include their name in your donation. On Saturday 17 October I will put my jacket with the ribbons on, read out all the names of the babies I'll be riding with and for and head out for the ride they never got to do.
We'll be leaving from Birkenhead, Auckland and you're welcome to tie on a ribbon and come along too.
I'm Cat - Krystal's step Mum. Krystal is 13 years old and participating in the William Pike Challenge and is fundraising for Sands.
Krystal has lost a brother, sister (born born early) and a cousin (6 days old). I have lost 2 babies and a sister.
We've done the ride 19 October 2020
Hello everyone!
Thank you so much for all your donations. On Saturday Krystal took all your babies with her on a ride on her Dad's Harley. They went from Island Bay to Puhio and back again.
Here's a little video from Krystal to say thanks for your donations and we'll share some photos on the page too.
We also want to say thank you for sharing your stories with us. Some of your words broke our hearts and we shed a fair few tears reading them.
We're so proud that we could add another story to your babies short lives.
Kia Kaha,
Cat & Krystal
