I'm going to run a marathon - 422 lengths of a rugby field to raise funds and awareness for mental health in New Zealand.
Auckland
In August 2011 I lost my brother suddenly when he took his life. He would be 42 this year so in his memory this August i am planning to run a marathon - 42.195km - by running 422 lengths of a rugby field. The hope is to raise funds and along the way some awareness for what is a real problem not only in N.Z but all over the world. In N.Z suicide is the biggest killer of males aged 18-45 and what i believe to be a preventable cause. But we need to change our attitude to mental health, to TALK and to LISTEN. You can follow my journey through @jonnybentleyjb and if you can join me virtually by joining in for the last 10 lengths of your local footy field, park, living room or whatever feels right at the time.
The last 10 lengths will take place August 16 at 11am Spanish time, 10am in the UK and 9pm Sunday night in N.Z and share on your socials with #give10run10 and #mentalhealthmarathon.
My brother passed away 9 years ago after struggling with his mental health. I want to do something to contribute to this foundation and raise funds and awareness through running a marathon.
goalposts shifted again 15 August 2020
Thanks to some amazing people the 5000 mark has been smashed with over 24 hours before i commence the run so i've moved the goalposts again to a figure of 7012 seeing as Dan used to wear the 12 jersey on the field. Thanks so much again to everybody who has donated or shared so far
