Runaway Jess - For Our Ngāhere & Manu

$300 of $150 goal
Given by 10 generous donors in 4 weeks

I'm running 30km along the stunning Port Hills in December to help our ngāhere, manu, and people thrive.

Nationwide

Kia ora katoa! I grew up in the beautiful Rotorua Lakes District, where I was surrounded by beautiful ngāhere (forest) and manu (birds). Moving to Ōtautahi Christchurch, I have realised how many cities in Aotearoa lack nature in urban areas. Due to raid urbanisation, our indigenous wildlife are critically endangered, and so I am running 30km in the Port Hills in December, as part of my training for the 50km Tarawera Ultramarathon in February, to raise money for Forest & Bird.

I have been a volunteer for Forest & Bird for the past 5 years where I am currently the Forest & Bird Youth Director and a leader at the Christchurch hub. During this time I have seen the amazing changes they create for nature. You can find out more about Forest& Bird here: https://www.forestandbird.org.nz/ , and their youth division, Forest & Bird Youth here: https://www.forestandbird.org.nz/our-community/forest-bird-youth

Every dollar donated during December to Forest & Bird will be doubled due to their Christmas appeal. My aim is to raise $5 for every kilometre I run, so an end goal of $150 (which will be doubled to $300). If you can, please donate or share this page so that we can help nature, and therefore ourselves, to thrive :)

Kia ora thank you!  30 December 2023

Kia ora thank you so much to everyone that has donated to my cause! Every dollar counts when helping te taiao to thrive, and I know that your money will be used wisely in how it's spent and the impact that it creates.

If you haven't checked out Forest & Bird yet, I highly recommend doing so. And if you are between the ages of 14-25, they have a youth network called Forest & Bird Youth, which I would highly recommend you to join (yes I am a member!).

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
