Fundraising for Melanoma New Zealand
Auckland
I am based in Wellington which we all know is not known for its awesome weather, I spend my weeks running on the trails in pursuit of ticking off an event I first heard about 36 years ago, The Marathon Des Sables.
My dream was nearly shattered in 2019 when
I was diagnosed with stage 3 melanoma. Surgery and a stint off running meant that I could spent time recovering and not training.
2 years of planning and patience and I was all set to take on the Marathon Des Sables in April 2020. Then Covid struck and this epic event consisting of 7 days self-sufficient multi stage 250km race in the Sahara Desert would end up being rearranged 3 times. It is now scheduled for October 2021 and my flights are booked as is my space in Managed Isolation for my return.
I have already raised almost $4500 for Melanoma NZ in the lead up to the event in April 2020
As a Wellington trail runner, I am definitely used to adverse conditions, although it is going to be a bit warmer in the desert!
‘What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.’
Help me raise some more funds for this awesome charity.
