Running in honour of Mum for the Hospice.
Auckland
Today marks the start of Hospice Awareness Week and hopefully it will shine a light on the importance of the care, the value and the comfort that Hospice provides. Last year, during lockdown, I lost my Mum to a lifelong heart condition and a lifelong battle. In her last 5 weeks of life we were surrounded by friends, family and the amazing team at Hospice. The care and support that we were given was unimaginable. The Nurses and Doctors along with counsellors, massage therapists and other staff at North Shore Hospice were amazing. Their care and empathy towards not only mum, but Dad, Laura and myself were something that I am truly grateful for.
Two years ago I ran my first full marathon in support of my mum and her journey. This year I am challenging myself even further. On the 30th of October, the day of the Auckland Half Marathon, I will commence a year long journey where I will compete in 5 half marathons, to mark the 5 weeks that Mum came home from the hospital and fought so hard to stay with us. I will finish by running a full marathon at the end of the year to honour the marathon journey that Mum had in her life and the amazing person she was.
I understand that a lot of you donated last time to my cause, and COVID might still be a struggle for some, but I would truly appreciate it if you could donate even the smallest amount to such a worthwhile cause.
