Spreading the word about benefits of exercise to those on the autism spectrum
Otago
This month, I'll be running 150km in the Greatest Virtual Run to support a New Zealand charity called Running on the Spectrum. The charity gives running shoes to Kiwi kids with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and spreads the word about benefits of exercise in an inclusive and fun way.
You might not know that individuals with ASD often have fewer opportunities to engage in exercise. Running can be a great way for them to release energy, decrease stress/anxiety and boost self-esteem. (Fun fact: this is actually the topic of my PhD research!)
I am thrilled to be part of the Greatest Virtual Run community and support this great cause. Let's get running, and let's get fundraising!
I am participating in the 2018 Greatest Virtual Run that is organized through the New Zealand charity, Running on the Spectrum.
