7 sailors, 11-15 years old, attempt the challenge of sailing Cook Strait in their dinghies while raising funds for Live Ocean.

Marlborough

7 sailors, age 11-15 years old, will attempt the challenge of sailing Cook Strait in their optimists and starling dinghies while raising funds for the future of our ocean.

They will begin the adventure on the 25th of November and will sail a distance of 22km across Cook Strait. This is not a small goal by any stretch so to ensure the sailors safety they will only sail in suitable weather and therefore the date may be subject to change.

Live Ocean Foundation supports exceptional marine scientists, innovators and communicators who play a vital role in the fight for a healthy ocean. 100% of public donations go directly to the marine conservation projects Live Ocean support.

Update Sail Cook Strait 23 April 2024

Thank you for supporting us and for your donation to Live Ocean. Unfortunately we have not yet managed to sail the Strait due to the weather not working in our favour. It has been a challenging year. We plan to give it one last try on the weekend of the 4-5th of May. If this does not go ahead we will arrange to sail the Marlborough Sounds as an alternative. As this page has officially closed there will be no further updates. Hopefully you will hear from our sailors about the sail after the weekend. Fingers crossed for their success.
