Sam is a tri-er!! Getting uncomfortable to support the #Spark That Chat mission - suicide prevention through mental wellbeing.
Hawke's Bay
My uncomfortable challenge for Spark That Chat is doing a mini triathlon daily for 14 consecutive days this November. I will cycle 10km to the local Sports Park, run 2-3 laps round the limestone track (5-7km), swim 1500m, then cycle home.
Some of this will be quite pleasant .... the uncomfortable bit will be the swimming (I really hate public swimming pools!) and cycling if it's windy.
Please support my efforts; I am literally 'tri-ing' to help promote better mental health through resilience and social connection. BRING IT ON!! Thanks in advance for your generosity.

Tri-ed and tri-umphed!! 29 November 2025
DID IT!!! #sparkthatchat Uncomfortable Challenge completed.
3 key areas of discomfort were time, physical effort and weather....
Fitting in 2 - 2.5 hrs of mini-tri action every day has been really difficult. But I adjusted and juggled because I made a commitment to myself. So it is possible to fit in self-care - our mental wellbeing depends on it.
Physically demanding goes without saying. There was muscle pain, there was a chlorine allergy, deeply ugly goggle marks, thigh burn and gaspy breathing. I am probably too old for this s*** and set the bar too high. BUT, I pushed on, lost 2.3kg, discovered long-forgotten muscle tone and got fitter!! Mental and physical resilience so much stronger having persevered.
Thank you, Mother Nature, for the sweltering temps 28+, thunderstorms, gusty winds and driving rain. It made me so grateful for where I live (gorgeous NZ) , and for a life that allows me to get outside and enjoy my surroundings often. Appreciating my health and nature's wealth.
Finally, gratitude of the highest order! For all my family, friends and odd-bids in my life, near and far, young and old. Social connections are absolutely vital for good mental health to stay well and thrive. Everyone who has read my posts and felt moved to support with a donation to Spark That Chat- you are legends. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
And it's not too late if you still want to donate!
